Our butterfly farm in Florida

Clearwater Butterfly is a butterfly farm in Florida where we raise butterflies and caterpillars for customers ordering release packages and growing kits. Our address is 2400 Curryville Rd, Chuluota, Florida 32766. Clearwater is our business name; the farm address is in Chuluota, not the city of Clearwater. We have been growing butterflies since 1991 where we started in Massachusetts. We then moved to Florida in 2001 which was more conducive to growing butterflies year round.

You can order adult Painted Lady butterflies for a wedding or memorial, or choose live caterpillars to raise at home or in a classroom. Those are different purchases. A release package is planned around an event; a growing kit gives you time to watch caterpillars develop into butterflies.

The farm behind your order

We are the growers. The butterflies and caterpillars you order from us are raised on our Florida farm. We supply adult butterflies for ceremonies and caterpillars for growing activities, so choosing between them starts with what you want to do.

Our About page introduces that background. You can ask us about the butterflies you plan to order. Tell us whether you have a ceremony date to meet or want to watch caterpillars grow, and we can help you choose.

Butterflies develop through egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and adult stages. A growing kit starts with live caterpillars, rather than eggs or adult butterflies. An event package starts you at a different point: the adult butterflies are supplied for the release you are arranging. You do not need to raise caterpillars ahead of your wedding. In fact, we do not recommend attempting to raise caterpillars to be adult butterflies by a certain date. We cannot guarantee the timing of the process. It is better to order the adult butterflies when you are planning a specific release on a certain date.

Choose a release package for a ceremony

Our wedding release packages offer different quantities and presentation options. For example, Wedding Package #2 contains 50 Painted Lady butterflies in individual envelopes, with envelope color and inscription choices. Wedding Package #4 contains 50 Painted Ladies in one release box.

Think about who will take part before choosing the quantity. Individual envelopes let selected guests participate. A shared box gives the couple or another designated person the opening role, with the rest of the group watching. Count the people releasing butterflies, rather than assuming every person attending needs an envelope.

For a remembrance gathering, our memorial release packages provide a separate place to shop. Memorial Package #1 includes 36 Painted Ladies and offers individual-envelope and release-box choices. A family can decide who will participate and where the release belongs in the service before selecting the presentation.

Choose a growing kit for observation and learning

Our 10-caterpillar kit with an enclosure includes live caterpillars, caterpillar food, a butterfly cage enclosure and a Painted Lady butterfly booklet. It is intended for raising caterpillars at home, in an office or in a classroom.

The learning happens as you watch the caterpillars grow, form chrysalides and emerge as adult butterflies. Leave room in your plans for that process instead of treating a kit as a substitute for an event package with a fixed ceremony date. Read the kit contents carefully, especially if you already own an enclosure and are comparing different products.
