Butterfly release in Chicago, IL

Planning a butterfly release in Chicago starts with choosing a moment your guests can share outdoors. At Clearwater Butterfly, we sell Painted Lady butterfly packages with individual envelopes and release box options. Our business is based in Chuluota, Florida. Contact us with your destination and event date to confirm availability before adding a release to your ceremony plans.

For a wedding, you might want guests to participate after the vows or prefer a release led by the couple. For a memorial, a smaller group may take part after a reading. Choose the format first, then match the package to the people participating.

Choose your Chicago butterfly release package

Our wedding release packages let you compare butterfly quantities and presentation options without treating the reception guest count as an automatic order quantity.

If you want individual participation, Wedding Package #2 includes 50 Painted Ladies in individual envelopes, with envelope color and personalized inscription choices. Decide who will hand them out and who will explain the release cue.

For a release led by the couple or designated family members, Wedding Package #4 includes 50 Painted Ladies in one release box. This gives you a different ceremony format at the same butterfly quantity. Check the product page for current options and pricing.

If you are arranging a funeral or remembrance gathering, browse our memorial release packages for that occasion rather than working around wedding wording.

Fit the release into the ceremony schedule

An indoor ceremony and an outdoor butterfly release need separate places on the schedule. Do not assume that moving the wedding into a ballroom also moves the release indoors. Our release requirements call for an outdoor, daylight release; ask us about suitable conditions for your particular date and time.

Use these questions when discussing the plan with your Chicago venue:

Your ceremony plan Decision to settle before ordering
Vows indoors, release outside afterward Where will guests gather, and how long will the move take?
Outdoor vows followed by photographs Who gives the release cue before guests leave their places?
Reception begins later in the day Is there an earlier outdoor opportunity to discuss with us?
Venue moves the ceremony inside What will replace the release in the ceremony if conditions are unsuitable?

Check the National Weather Service Chicago forecast for the venue’s ZIP code and review the hourly forecast near your proposed release time. Bring weather concerns to us before proceeding; a pleasant afternoon forecast does not settle the conditions for a later ceremony.

Tell your photographer when the release is planned. Leave room in the portrait schedule for butterflies to behave differently than expected; a particular flight pattern cannot be promised.

Ask your coordinator to keep the reading, announcement and guest movement together in the running order. If guests need to move outside, tell them before the ceremony ends. That avoids half the group heading to the reception while the participants wait elsewhere.

Confirm the location as well as the date

Ask the property manager whether a live butterfly release is permitted at the exact outdoor space you intend to use. Permission to hold a wedding does not answer that separate question.

For interstate orders, USDA APHIS guidance on butterflies for release explains that permit consideration depends on species, origin and destination. Discuss the proposed shipment with us; a venue’s permission does not establish shipping eligibility.

Choose one person to receive the order and read the instructions supplied for it. If that person is also in the wedding party, identify someone else who can handle ceremony coordination. Send the receiving address separately from the ceremony address when they differ.

Chicago release questions

Which package should we choose for guest participation?

Start with the number of people you want to release butterflies individually. Package #2 offers 50 individual envelopes. You can involve selected relatives or friends rather than arranging one butterfly for every wedding guest.

Can we release butterflies inside our venue?

Plan the release outdoors during daylight. An indoor ceremony can still have a separate outdoor portion, subject to permission and suitable conditions. Do not use an indoor room as the automatic backup release location.

What if the outdoor schedule changes?

Ask us about the revised timing and conditions before proceeding. Agree with your officiant on a reading or another ceremony moment if the release cannot take place. Keep handling questions with us rather than improvising on the day.

What should we send when asking about an order?

Use our contact form to send the event date, proposed release time, destination ZIP code and package preference. Include any separate receiving address so we can discuss the order against your actual plans.
